Job Title:

Protection Monitor

Missions and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the collection, analysis, documentation and referral of human right violations and protection cases in his/her area of competence;
  • Identify Focal points within the community and liaise with them to collect information on human rights violations, population movements and protection issues in the area of intervention;
  • Conduct activity as Key Informant Interviews, home visits, FDG, observation missions to collect analyze and triangulate information on human right violations and protection issues;
  • Train Focal Points, local authorities and community structure on human rights, GBV, child protection and identification of human rights violations to ensure an alert system between Focal Points and the protection monitors;
  • Carry out rapid protection assessments and humanitarian contextual analysis on the field according to the standard tools provided to him/her;
  • Collaborate with the social worker for the referral of protection cases identified during outreach activities or referred form other actors, to appropriate actors/institutions within the timeframe and according to relevant standards;
  • Keep track of human rights violation, elaborate and share in a timely manner flash monitoring report with the Field Coordinator;
  • Carry out all tasks respecting key protection principles, including but not limited to: do no harm, non-discrimination, confidentiality, accountability and need-to-know principles;
  • Document protection cases and facilitate IDPs access to assistance in close cooperation with the competent authorities;
  • Maintain good relations with local, administrative, customary and community leaders in his/her area of intervention;
  • Ensure, under the supervision of the Field Coordinator and in collaboration with social workers, community awareness on human rights, protection, child protection and GBV topics;
  • Identify separated, unaccompanied children, GBV survivors and other categories of people at risk and ensure their referall to other appropriate actors in his/her area for responsibility;
  • Establish mapping of the services in his/her area of intervention and ensure good coordination with the other relevant actors presents;
  • Ensure proper and safe filing and archiving of files to maintain data confidentiality;
  • Carry out all tasks respecting key protection principles, including but not limited to: do no harm, non-discrimination, confidentiality, accountability and need-to-know principles;
  • Participate actively in the weekly meetings planned by the field Coordinator and the management of the project;
  • Identify and work closely and effectively with focal points and those responsible for distribution of NFI and shelter components;
  • Be flexible and ready to accept any other tasks asked by INTERSOS related to the achievement of project's objectives.

Competences

University degree in social sciences and/or related field e.g. Social sciences, human rights, private law, Psychology or equivalent would be an asset

One year of relevant field work experience professional Internship or professional experience in human rights defense NGO would be an asset

Essential computer literacy (word, excel and internet)

Respect and non-discriminatory attitude, empathy

Interpersonal and communication skills

Writing and reporting skills

Capacity to work under pressure

Knowledge of English and Pidgin English
