POSITION: Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator

WORK HOURS: Full time, 40 hours/week

The U.S. Mission in Yaounde, Cameroon is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator. This position is located in Yaounde, Cameroon.

BASIC FUNCTION OF THE POSITION

Under the supervision of the Building Systems Engineer, the incumbent maintains the wastewater treatment plant. This includes operating, monitoring, maintaining and troubleshooting the wastewater treatment plant and its processes. Work involves responsibility for the technical aspects of plant operations, compliance with OBO operating regulations and procedures, and underground sewer system.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

Applicants must address each required qualification listed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each item. Failure to do so may result in a determination that the applicant is not qualified.

EDUCATION: GCE “A” level, Baccalaureate, or equivalent in electricity, industrial mechanics, plumbing, hydraulic systems, HVAC, or chemistry is required.

EXPERIENCE: At least two years of experience in operating a water or wastewater treatment plant in a large institution or an international organization is required.

LANGUAGE: Level III (good working knowledge) speaking/reading/writing English and Level II (limited knowledge) speaking/reading French are required. (This will be tested.)

SKILLS AND ABILITIES: The incumbent must demonstrate the following skills: excellent mechanical skills; ability to operate and maintain water and sewer equipment and systems; customer service skills; analytical and problem solving skills; literacy skills including the ability to read manuals; effective verbal and listening communications skills; computer skills such as Microsoft outlook, word and excel. He/She must possess a valid local driver's license (Category B) and be capable to drive. (This will be tested.)

JOB KNOWLEDGE: The incumbent must have a working knowledge of: the operation, methods and procedures of a wastewater treatment plant; the machinery used for water treatment and pumping stations; water and sanitation systems management; water sampling and testing techniques; inspection procedures; the mechanical equipment and the ability to diagnose and correct equipment malfunction; the basic machinery preventive maintenance and repair; basic knowledge of mechanical, plumbing, heating and electrical systems; waste water plant operation and maintenance including pumps, valves, chemical treatment systems, etc.; water and sewer distribution and collection systems including pipes, manholes, hydrants, etc.; applicable safety rules and procedures governing water discharges and worker's safety.
